Open Source Software

The community of of open source software developers has grown to epic proportions over recent years and consequently there is a multitude of free software available to the public.  For those of you who are not familiar with open source software, it is just like the name says, all code written is open for the public to see and scrutinize and these developers rely on donations from the public to fund their projects.  Microsoft on the other hand hides the code to all of their software and charges dearly for their software.
